The City of San Francisco in their great wisdom, has decided to remove approximately 28 London Plane Trees, sycamores is another common name: Latin name is Platanus x hispanica. I know many feel that this is not a spectacular wood. However, these trees are mature with large burls on some trunks. The wood if quartersawn does reveal some figure and rays.

This mass removal is still a few months away. We do not know if the city will allow any wood salvage. They often cite insurance problems. However, we will try to line up portable mills, or trucks to haul logs. For wood turners, the cut-offs and first crotches would satisfy wood needs for schools, classes, and of course wood turners. Let me know if there is any interest. The trees are in Hayes Valley area of San Francisco.
